ADA4M - Dramatic Arts (University/College Preparation):

This course requires students to experiment individually and collaboratively with forms and conventions of both drama and theatre from various cultures and time periods. Students will interpret dramatic literature and other text and media sources while learning about various theories of directing and acting. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures, and will analyse how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school.

ADP4M Theatre Development and Playwriting (University/College Preparation):

In this course students will create and perform dramatic presentations. Students will have the opportunity to analyze, interpret, and perform dramatic works from various cultures and time periods. Students will research various styles and conventions that could be used in their presentations, and then apply these elements to their original and scripted creations. They will explore the roles and functions of playwrights, directors, actors, designers, technicians, and audiences and will have the opportunity to assume these roles throughout the semester. Students will actively explore the development of Western theatre forms from ancient times to modern while gaining insight into universal themes and historical perspectives on humankind.. Prerequisite: ADA3M or ADA4M

AWR4M - Film/Video (University/College):

This course is a further extension of AWR 3O. It continues to explore the history and genre of films by giving students the opportunities to examine various techniques used by past and present filmmakers. Students will develop analytical and interpretative skills through skills through research, large and small group projects, independent projects, written and oral presentation. Students will learn to respect and understand the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today's contemporary society.

AMI4M - Instrumental Music (University/College Preparation):

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and from the twentieth century, including jazz, popular music, art music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. They will also complete complex creative projects. Course fee.

AME4M - Music - Ensemble (University/College):

This course offers students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through independent study activities and group projects. Students are expected to develop and apply effective planning strategies to the coordination and presentation of one or more school/community events.

Students will continue to cultivate critical thinking skills through group and self-evaluation. Analytical skills continue to be applied to the understanding of the diversity of world music - Western and Non-Western cultures. Students will be expected to cultivate and realize performance opportunities (solo and small ensemble) within the school community. A focus on technology in music allows students to continue to develop their knowledge and skills in composition and arranging through the use of computer software programs.Course fee attached.

AMR4M - Music - Repertoire (University/College):

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. They will also complete complex creative projects. This course will help students meet the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by teaching them to examine and reflect on one's personal values, abilities, and aspirations influencing life's choices and opportunities.

AVI4M - Visual Arts (University/College):

This course focuses on enabling students to refine their use of the creative process when creating and presenting two- and three-dimensional art works using a variety of traditional and emerging media and technologies. Students will use the critical analysis process to deconstruct art works and explore connections between art and society. The studio program enables students to explore a range of materials, processes, and techniques that can be applied in their own art production. Students will also make connections between various works of art in personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural contexts.

AWM4M - Visual Arts: Drawing and Painting (University/College):

This studio concentrated course is designed to give senior students an opportunity to explore a variety of styles, techniques and themes through various drawing and painting media. Focus will be on maturing studio skills while increasing the student's ability to communicate through and about visual arts. The semester will culminate in each student's personal portfolio presentation.
